分子辐射吸收现象：
　　 分子至少含有二个原子且彼此受到一些能量的牵制，这能量含括可写成；
　　总能量 = 滚动能 + 振动能 + 电子解离能
　　 分子滚动能量其辐射吸收仅在红外线之外，若再加上振动能也仅进入红外线光谱区附近，假若要吸收光谱在可见光或紫外光区，就需关切到染料结构以及电子解离、游离或跳离的情况判定，而有机化合物产生无色现象通常是吸收辐射光谱在紫外光区。而能量需求来源是由基态(E0)提升到激发态(E1)而得。
　　 根据量子理论：原子或分子能阶上由辐射产生的能量转移发生了不连续之能量包或量子，会聚而成一吸收光谱图。(每一波长放射出来有重迭现象，所以会产生连续曲线，解释以单一波长较能理解；而实际上应一束光来看之。)

　　λ：吸收辐射线之波长
　　h： Planck’s 常数
　　 饱和脂肪族化合物因紧密结合使由电子键结形成的结构产生较稳定状态；导致不易跳离，若要发生其电子解离能必定其能量大得多。
　　 简易不饱和化合物，例：CH2=CH2其解离能大约在710 KJ/mole其吸收光谱在U.V. 175nm处测得一peak；若有较多不饱和化合物聚集结合，将使得最大吸收波长往长波长移动，也就是说电子跳动更加容易，一但解离能若在148.4 KJ/mole ~ 297 KJ/mole 之间；也就是辐射放射波长在400nm ~ 800 mm时所需之能量，我们眼睛即可看得到颜色。

　　 不饱和的环状分子(含有π键)加上发色团即可产生颜色来，若要形成染料必需加入助色团才能得到。
　　接上助色团的目的为：
　　(1) 帮助染料上色，增强发色团发色能力。
　　(2) 增加染料和被染物之间的亲和力。
　　(3) 增加染料对水的溶解度。
　　亲电子性取代反应(Electrophilic Substition)：E⊕
　　 具有电子云密度较高的物质；例如：Benzene颇能吸引缺电子物质与之结合，而这些缺电子物质便称为具有亲电性现象，然而结合后的产物若遇到亲电性较强的缺电子物质，则亲电性较弱的物质便会被取代出来。这个过程称为亲电性取代反应。
　　亲核性取代反应(Nucleophilic Substition)：NuΘ
　　 一些缺电子的物质，例：碳离子颇能引起电子云密度较高物质与之结合。而这些电子云密度较高的物质便具有亲核性的现象，然而结合后的产物若遇到亲核性较强的物质，则亲核性较弱的物质将会被取代出来。这过程称为亲核性取代反应
　　 染料或颜料都有其选择性吸收可见光区某一特定波长之能力，其因分子结构特性而改变。假若我们认定光的波长使我们感觉颜色来再加上辐射吸收的看法，而形成白光结果；那么我们可大胆地确定所看到的颜色和吸收之色光将会有互补的效果。

　　(1) 溶剂完全溶解染料，不能有悬浮物因会产生乱射或散射。
　　(2) 不发生化学反应。
　　(3) 最好没毒性且挥发性不要太高。(沸点不可太低)
　　(4) 溶剂易买到，价钱便宜。
