(2) 他被认为是最伟大的英语作家之一，但他在二十岁的时候才开始学英语。他要早于我前面已经介绍过的另三位获得极高成就的用非母语英语写作的作家，包括林语堂、纳博科夫、哈金。
(3) 他十一岁成孤儿，由舅舅抚养。除了波兰文，法文也很好。十六岁去法国作了四年海员，之后又去英国作了十五年海员。三十六岁发表第一部用英语写的小说。
(4) 很多美国有名作家都受康纳德影响，比如"The Great Gatsby"的作者菲茨杰拉德就自称是康纳德的模仿者。
