What are they looking for in a woman? If they are not "vulgar", what clues do they use to tell women apart?

By instinct I felt that this kind of men will be the ideal target for people in this forum who are seeking long-term relationship. That is why I asked for elaboration.
However, I was stunned by his "strange" style of grammar, and by the cultural difference revealed by the translation.
I thought all American writers imitate JFK and Hemingway, or at least O'Henry. Why is his writing style so "abrasive" to me? Just curious how general audience in US responds to his writing.
