formal as to involve a lawyer. Just write something down on paper as a way for force both of you to have serious thinking and discussion on these issues. Each then keep a copy. When disagreement occurs later, you have something to follow. Of course real life should not be so rigid. If you love each other, eventually two finances will merge naturally. But at this moment, it is good to put all the major issues on the table top to discuss it openly. This is a way to get to know each other more too.
