大文豪雨果有个女儿很年轻（二十岁不到）就死了，死于溺水。当时是翻船，女婿女儿一起落水的。他那女婿会游泳，已经浮上水面了。又潜下去好几次试图救自己老婆，救不上来。终究不愿意自己逃生，最后潜下去陪老婆死了。

据说是自己不愿意独活、自愿赴死的。不过夫妇俩都已经死了，这个浪漫主义的版本没法得到证实，所以哥觉得也不排除是客观上的力竭而死。不管怎么说，救人的努力一直坚持到了最后一刻，这个是毋庸置疑的。
