I had a Ph.D. classmate. He quitted his manager job at 50 and started for a Ph.D. After he got his Ph.D. in 2004 (54), he could not find any job to match his qualification and anticipation in two years. Since he and his wife had been managers for a while, they took earlier retirement.

Your hu*****and is 18 years older than you, at this age, fewer employers want to take him for a senior position. I have a friend who is a manager 60 . He has to be very productive to keep his position, although he has been the position for more than a decade.

Hope the best, prepare for the worst.
