(When I looked down, a kind of fright struck me. -> A kind of fright struck me when I looked down.) I realized that I was (on the) half way to a vertical cliff. People (on -> at) the bottom of the (mountain->valley) looked like ants. I felt my legs (began -> started shaking, or -> trembling). I couldn’t help (but) holding tightly (on -> onto) the banister (by the side of -> along) the way to the top of the mountain. At that time I wanted to give up climbing the mountain, but I couldn’t do it (. Because -> , because) the way to the bottom is even more dangerous, the only thing I can (could) do was to calm myself down and (continue -> continued) to finish (the way left -> climbing). After a deep breath (with deep breaths), (I didn’t see the steps I had walked any more -> I looked up without looking at the steps that I had gone over) and only kept on climbing. (Then -> Finally) I (got to -> reached) the end of the steep steps a few minutes later. (When I stood -> Standing) on the end of the steps and (looked back -> looking down) to the way I walked, I felt a great sense of achievement. The dread (disappeared and) was replaced by (joy -> a joy) of accomplishment quickly.
That was what I experienced on the way to (get -> getting) the top of (mountain -> Mount) Hua. (Sometimes what we are facing looks like a mountain that is difficult to climb. -> What we are facing, sometimes, looks like a mountian climbing, which is difficult to conqure and to climb.) (It will make us feel scared -> It makes us feel scared) and (we) don’t (want to try -> even try) anything except escaping. The difficulty is just a thing which looks terrible. If we have the courage to face it, it will be nothing (hard). So when you feel dread, what you need to do is just close your eyes and keep moving, everything will be OK.
