Excellent answering to my questions. To sum up:
1. There are rules in life one must abide, because a person becomes part of a social institution when s/he enters an organisation, be it a firm, a schoo, or a circle. There are things that one should/should not do, but want not/want to do. One can always choose to be happy by playing at the edge of the rules. For example, a professor-student position only lasts as long as a semester.
2. within a circle, there are also rules. But these rules are less explicit. There are more ethical norms than legal limitation. You do what your friends expect you of doing, for example. Doing it well does not guarantee your browny points. Not doing it, well almost certainly leave a bad taste in both your friends' and your mouth.
3. Your choices. You can choose to be a happy and free person if you are able to satisfy BOTH 1. and 2.
Thanks. So rules, ethics and choices, huh?
