I don't think that it's Martin's fault in this relationship. He was a bit self-centered. He expected an independant wife with an education background that he could proud of. However, the reality changed him. He firstly went to a romantic notion, fell in love with a beautiful Chinese girl. After he brought her here, he imposed all his expectation on her, disappointingly, she didn't satisfy him. Martin was wrong about not being very respectful to his wife's own will but being very forceful. In another word, it's not love but selfishness.
Katie tried and was exhausted and hurt. Living with such a man is not a great life for her, actually not for Martin, too.
I'm sure if Martin met *****. all meet his expectation, he would be a good hu*****and. Relationship is very hard. Relationships last is not because of passion but forgiveness and tolerance. Martin certainly doesn't have those for Katie.
When two people together is not a good match, they should stop torturing each other.
Good luck to both of them.
I'm glad that katie and martin chose the right thing for themsel
