我觉得

美国的不少家长对孩子的课外活动，运动或其他文艺活动，投入都很大，不仅仅是金钱上的，还有人力上的。

现在想想，大概那也是家长们的一种social 吧？孩子们其实给很多家长，特别是第一代移民的家长更多接触社会的机会。
