between ballet and hiphop, 90 % would choose hiphop, becaus it's free movement, less restrictions, no reqirement on body forms.
BUT, when they get older and want to advance to higher level, they would go back to take hard and boring basic trainings in ballet, because they know it's necessary.
So we need to listen to children but not 100 %. When to draw the lines needs wisdom.
