keep your hand on the lap.

If you need to have anything out of your mouth, use the napkin to cover your mouth and put it quietly on the plate.
If you are using only one hand (fork or spoon), put the other one on your lap. Generally, your elbow should never be on the table before dessert.
It's also polite to fold the napkins a little bit before you leave instead of throwing it on the table.
