It's different in China

It also depends on the age. My parents gave 100K RMB to my brother and his wife  back in 2000. But it is the first time he got married. They gave them another 10K RMB after my nephew was born. And they help every time they buy a house so I lost count on how much money they gave them. Our family is an average family. They gave a lot more nowadays but I am not sure about 2nd time marriage. Plus in the states they dont rely on the parents much. 

Maybe I am a little greedy. I havent got married yet. My bf's mum help us downpaid $20K on our house and she will give us $5000 for our wedding that is going to happen next year. His brother will give us another $5000 as well. my bf's mum definately doesnt have too much money but his brother has a decent job. I didnt play to pay her back. Maybe just gifts on major holidays. I think Chinese parents will give more for sure. I didnt ask for anything from my parents. Mostly because I make a lot more than they do in China. And my bf and his family just assume that our family couldnt afford too much so they dont care that they pay more.
