direct quote from a Russian immigrant friend of mine.  Most of them wouldn't tell you about it, except among themselves, at least in my democrat dominated community.

I like them, because when they smile, they really smile. They are direct, and they'll fight for you without hesitation. The bonding in their communities, among families and friends are tighter and deeper. But it's hard to be accepted by them as their friend if you are an outsider. We don't talk about politics.
