If you are talking about expensive stuffs, like cars, most of people tends to hold back a little.
If you are talking about daily grocery, or clothes, most of people don't change the shopping behavior, as long as they can afford.
Restaurants will be affected somehow.

Most of people are trying to live their lives as usual, if they can afford it.
However, undeniably, this recession made a lot of people struggle. Obviously, if one can not afford, they will have to change their shopping habbit.
Luxury expenses targeted at middle class got the most hit during time like this.
I spend like normal. Prices rise more than CPI for me, it is true, because I don't eat that much bread :)
