Dining in San Diego: Asian food (Convoy Street is unofficially called Asian town in San Diego, you can find any kind of Asian food there.  My personal recommendation - Dumpling Inn/Taiwan style; Old Restaurant老正兴/Shanghai; Tofu House/Korean), any bar/restaurent downtown SD, or any bar/restaurant by La Jolla Beach.

Between San Diego and LA: Laguna beach, Orange county,

LA: Hollywood Walk of Fame; Sunset Boulevard; Rodeo Drive, China Town, Disneyland, Universal Studio; any bars/restaurants downtown or in China town (you can try the one Jackie Chan shot his movie)
