老舍小说《四世同堂》中的人物形象大致可分为三类：一类是“旧派市民形象”，以祁家老太爷、祈天佑为代表；第二类是“新派市民形象”，其中有以诗人钱默吟、韵梅为代表的正派的或理想的市民形象，以祁瑞宣为代表的“过度人”形象，以祁瑞丰、胖菊子为代表的“洋派”与“新派”的市井无赖形象；第三类是“底层市民形象”，以车夫小崔、剃头匠孙七为代表。老舍在对这三类人物性格的刻画中，完成着组建“完整人性”的过程。
