Lao She's "Four generations under the same roof" has 3 genre of characters.

The first, the 'old generation citizens' are stereotyped by Old Master Qi and Tianyou Qi.

The second, the 'new generation citizens', is subcategorised into 3 further classifications: the honest 'idealised' citizens Moyin Qian and Yunmei; the 过度人形象characterised by Ruixuan Qi; and lastly the 'modern' rascal image of Ruifeng Qi and Fat Chrissy.

The third and last are the 'lower class citizens' of Chauffeur Chui and Barber Qi Sun
