Eventually, bad deeds or words come back to bite the originator.

I first heard the karmic expression in the movie "Malcolm X."
Reporter: Mr. X. Don't you even feel a bit of remorse, saddened by President
Kennedy's assassination?
X: Well sir, I don't think anyone here will deny that when you send chickens
out in the morning from your barnyard, those chickens will return that
evening to your barnyard, not your neighbor's barnyard. I think this is the
prime example of the devil's chickens coming back home to roost. That the
chikens he sent out, the violence that he's perpetrated here and abroad, be
it the four children in Birmingham or Medgar Evers, or in Africa. I think
the same violence has come home to claim one of their own. Being a farm boy
myself, chickens coming home to roost never made me sad. In fact, it only
made me glad.
It was political suicide. Next, Malcolm was gagged and kicked out of the Nation
of Islam. Before long, he was himself assassinated.
