请教一个有关完成时和完成进行时的语法问题，

have been xxx 指的是曾经怎样，
have been doing xxx 是说一直在做什么
那我要是想说一直是怎样怎样的，该怎么说呢？我不能说have been being the smartest吧？可是我就需要表达这从古至今的状态。
