Heard part of a talk, where an expert was explaining and emphasizing the differences between emotions and feelings. I had to confess that I had always taken these two words or concepts interchangeably. What he said made some sense to me and at least sounded self-consistent. I don't have time to go into more depth here. Instead, let me raise a question: Do you think emotions and feelings are the same? Can you name some differences between them?
Okay, I've got a little more time to resume now. Basically, emotions, according to the expert speaker, are reactions to external situations that have been developed through centuries of evolution and are pretty much action oriented with minimal thinking necessary. Most of the times, emotions are beneficial to self protection and survival. Feelings, on the other hand, are the awareness of one's own emotions, and therefore are quite different from emotions themselves. I must admit that these are my words here and they may only capture part of what I heard. Anyway, this is the best I can do for now. Do these make sense to you?
