pull something out of thin air。按照字面意思就是从稀薄的空气里抽取什么东西http://www.freexinwen.com/chinese/eng/wi/lesson320.asp 那时对于bond证券这个概念很多人认为是虚无缥缈的东西。但文章提到 “I” 对搞证券是能手。
