文学是艺术，不是科学。不同的人有不同的理解。并且有时怎么理解都无妨。

如果按字面来讲，莎士比亚或Chaucer的mind's eye也不一定通。
从引申的意思讲，The vagrants 里的when neither the sun nor its shadow reigned是说得通的。从贴的那段看，故事（这是小说）发生在1979。那时谁在reigned？作者说，不是the sun 也不是sun的影子。
当然读母语不是英文的人写的作品累，定力不够可能还会走下坡路。象那个 how many trees of blossoms blooming 就读着有点怪。
