missed the race due to mess in communication and traffic -> due to the communication and traffic mess. 

so called a misplay Olymic -> 这个修饰词用逗号隔开放在句未,好象结构有问题. 用括号括起来放在1996 Atlanta Olympics后,或用联词和前一句接会好些.
