这里跟pull something out of thin air的俗语还是不一样的。for one thing指的是reading，不是后面一句。

至于是不是暗喻，so far, I am not convinced yet. Even this literature criticism essay didn't say it is not literal "air"， because from Reich's theory， it is to be organic and to draw health from air. In Reich's theory, it's not related to bonds.
