This is what I know. Just for your reference. This is only for MA.

In Boston, attorney will cost you roughly 5k if you and your hu*****and don't go to court. Most of the time, your attorney and his attorney will negociate, and agree on sth after some back and forth. It will take about several months or 1 year to settle.

It will be much more expensive, say 30k or 50k, if you two go to court. And it will take a few years to settle.

Any marriage shorter than 7 years is considerd short marriage. You almost won't get any alimony. For marriage longer than 7 years, you should get some alimony. I heard that it won't be much unless your hu*****and is very rich.

For any asset your hu*****and has before the marriage, you don't have right on it. Vice versa.

For any asset after you two got married, it will be roughly divided equally.

It is important for you to provide as much financial info as you can (bank account, investment, house deed, 401k, etc.) Try to get the info of your hu*****and.

For child support, you can google "child support calculator" for the state you live in, to have an estimate.

For child custody, it may take some negotiation.

Who will pay the health insurance, who will claim child credit for tax return, etc.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO HAVE AN ATTORNEY, and have your attorney review all the agreements before you sign it. Because you don't want to give up some rights for you and your child(ren), and you may not even realize that.

Good luck!
