住在法国的读者评论基本上支持你们总统。 下面这个评论让我知道法国跟美国的一个巨大不同-- 法国是个secular country, 而美国还是宗教国家

The US is a heavily religious country while France has entirely cut its ties with the religion, something that Americans struggle to understand. Also, while ethnic and religious statistics are illegal here, it is believed that France (population 66 million) has more Muslims than the US (population 238 million).

Yes, as immigrants, many live in the poorest areas due to our absurd colonial past and our ill thought post-war Arab immigration policies. Yes, there is some level of racism, it’s totally deplorable, but incomparable with the levels of racism in the US. On another side, while older Muslims practice a peaceful Islam, the youth is heavily embracing the ultraconservative version of their religion and since our mosques are mainly funded by foreign states such as Saudi Arabia and Morocco, they are more and more exposed to radical Islam theories.

We are seeing a surge of demands from the very religious ones to twist the laws of the Republic to accommodate principles that are completely at odds with our vision of society. Namely men and woman segregation and the disfranchisement of women. I’m, by the way, flabbergasted by how the American left fails to condemn such ideology in the name of political correctness. In any case, France is a secular country. This doesn’t make us racists or Islamophobes. People in the US who believe that don’t understand how this country works and thinks.
