There is a foundational difference between the western and eastern cultures. 

The western culture is based on the bible and has matured over the last 2000 years. Since everyone has sin, people are equal in from of the God, so it is easy to accept the idea of democracy.   

The eastern culture is based on thousands of years of feudalistic ideology, which is opposite to democracy. 

This is my understanding of the true meaning of Christmas.
