“On passenger vehicles, a load may not extend beyond the line of the tandem.”

这句话在阿拉巴马的驾驶手册里。问了几个美国同事，没人明白“the line of the tandem”是什么意思。

Tandem means double, and in this case, it represents the two axes of a passenger vehicle. The “line of the tandem”, is the range between the two axes. If you want to place a load on top of your car, you can only place it between the front and the back axis.

By the way, how could you be a Chinamerican? Nether US nor China accepts dual citizenship.
