I don’t watch much Desperate housewives. But regarding to these idioms, I think I can help explain:

Carlos回家很晚，带了礼物来想以此打发Gabrielle.
Gabrielle说：no,no,no.you're not gonna buy your way out of this one.
这个是什么意思呢？是词组吗？
>> that means that you can’t bribe me to get away with what you have done.
你作错了，不能买好礼物讨好我，就了事了，你还要为此有个说法，要负责.

- how are you holding up? 什么意思,一般怎么回答?
>> how are you doing? How are you managing? Especially through tough times
hold up坚持
问别人过的如何，特别指困境中

还有以下短语的意思:
-say no more, I'll get out of your hair
>>俺不会再烦你了，get out of your hair = get off one’s back

-take her out at the knees = defeat *****
>>把某人拖出去，这个人膝盖着地，想象一下，就是把某人击败，打个半死

-just so you know,
-get off on the wrong feet
>> get off on the wrong feet with *****
和某人关系没搞好，特别强调是一开始的时候

反义词 get off the right feet with ***** 和某人关系搞好= get in good with ***** (my Wimpy kid article)
