when hearing the word. Like when you hear the word "apple", you think of that round object which is eatable and which is picked up from the tree; not the Chinese "苹果", avoiding the mental translation process so as to speak and think as native speakers.

Nice writing - where's "useful tip 3", it's empty ...

although easier said than done, better than none. good learning theory.
