Yes as I am getting older I have come to feel that time is the most important thing in our lives. It's the 4th of August 2009 today I am fully aware that once it passes this day will never return.
A friend of mine said to me that he noticed that high achievers tend to be good time managers. "They are just super efficient!"
But how can we be more efficient? We all need time to work, to eat, to sleep, and to accomplish all the daily chores of living. We also need time to socialize and to understand our mates, our friends and our loved ones. Most of our relationships, in fact, require more time than we have, and it is difficult to avoid the feeling that we could never have enough.
So are there ways in which we could save our time a bit more? Do you have any tips?
In English there is a saying "less is more". This is often used to refer to space. For example when you have less furniture your room looks bigger. So people would say less is more. But I think it can also apply to time management. If I write less (one page instead of two) I guess you are more likely to remember more. Do you agree?
Time Management Skills:
If everyone has the same amount of time and some people can mange well then why can't we? Are we using time wisely? I talked to a few people who are good at managing their time. Here are a few tips I learned from them:
1. Create and keep your "To Do List" handy. Prioritize your tasks. Don't skip over the difficult items when checking to see what needs completing next.
2. When you plan your schedule for the day, ensure that you leave 20% of your day free. This allows for emergencies and interruptions.
3. Break time-consuming tasks into smaller tasks and work on them one at a time.
4. Get it right the first time. Take your time to do a quality job. It may take more time to complete the task, but there is a lesser chance of errors. This way, you can avoid making time-consuming corrections.
5. Take a break. Stress is a fact of modern work life. If you feel your stress levels have risen too high, take time off to let off the steam. Too much stress can derail your attempts at getting organized. You could exercise a bit, or even take a day off.
