Talking about language learning...

We sure set a much higher bar for ourselves when it comes to language learning. It seems that we always feel sorry for our English, even after we aced GRE with much higher score than American students or land a competitive job position with our accented English.

For a foreigner, if he can speak simple sentences like “My name is blah, blah” or “how are you ” in Chinese, we will give him a big “wow” compliment. If he knows a little bit of Chinese culture and history, like Confucius, we give him that mind-blowing expression.

There is a well-known joke:
People who speak two languages are bilingual. People who speak three languages are called trilingual. If they speak only one language, they are Americans.

Guess the reason is that we are trying to make a living in the US or Canada. We need to compete with millions of native speakers in their homeland. Language learning is not a fun hobby for us, but a must grasped survival skill. But I think at least we don’t have to apology for our English. Be proud and be positive, just keep going…
