doesn't/don't - here just makes a statement of the fact about the key

"won't" usually means physically or emotionally or mentally someone doesn't want to do something.
e.g. I won't be anyone's scapegoat.

Here the subject is a "key" - an object, not people. I think it refects the attitudes or judgement of the speaker.

Check this scenario:

There is a man, who always loses things. Once he lost their car key and his wife asked to get the spare one. He came back with some plastic key found in their son's toy box. Without trying, the wife would roll her eyes(why did I marry this idoit back then?) and gave her judgement , "The key won't work." (这破玩意不会work)

The hu*****and wouldn't believe, he tried and tried with that plastic key for 30 minutes, then he had to say,"what a fxx key. It doesn't work." (这破玩意不work)
