The dictionary has the excellent pronunciation keys to show how a word is pronunciated in American English. And the most valuable asset is the companion CD-rom, which is not properly markted. The CD contains the pronunciation recordings of a word and its derivatives. For example, "perfect" and "perfectly", we know how the "perfect" is pronunciated from any online English dictionary, but there is no dictionary to show how "perfectly" would be pronuciated in American English. This dictionary has the voice recordings for all of them and with the nice pronuciation key to show you that last "t" in "perfectly" is not pronunciated in American English, which is very hard for Chinese to pronounce the last "t" in "perfectly". CD-rom also contains very valuable voice recordings for the sample sentences and english phases to listen to. I have discounted the part they are actually selling in the CD-rom, which is the Academic Study center for English learner to prepare for SAT and TOEFL, since I have no use of this part.
The CD-rom with the voice recordings of all derivatives of English words and phases and the sample sentences are very valuable to adult English learners. Their online free version does not have this part, so you must buy one.
recommend Longman's Dictionary of American English (4th)
