APAD: Push one's button

"Push one's button": to do things that create a very strong emotional reaction in one, especially anger, irritation, or exasperation.

I was listening to a CBC radio podcast of a recent episode of the "Ideas" talkshow.  The topic was "How 'freedom' has been distorted", by American historian Timothy Snyder.

In the show, the scholar talked about his 2017 bestseller book, "On Tyranny", as well as his recent book: "On Freedom". (If anyone is interested, you can find an excerpt from their conversation in: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/ideas/on-freedom-timothy-snyder )

I remember reading in the news that there are three scholars who left Yale and joined the Munk School at the University of Toronto, and Snyder is one of them.

Why did these renowned scholars choose to leave Yale to come to Canada at about the same time? Who and what pushed their buttons? 什么

Dear Google told me: "Several scholars, including philosophy professor Jason Stanley and history professors Marci Shore and Timothy Snyder, left Yale University to join the University of Toronto in 2025 due to concerns about academic freedom and the political climate in the United States under the Trump administration. They expressed worries about the direction of the country, potential threats to academic freedom, and the rise of authoritarianism, with some even drawing parallels to the pre-World War II era. "

Oh ... 小声点
