Leviathan by Thomas Hobbs as well as John Locke’s writing

was the required reading for "Political Thoughts,", the course I took in college. Hobbs' social contract theory is distinguishable from that of John Locke. If I remember correctly, John Locke is willing to give up some individual rights to the sovereign as long as the inalienable natural rights of life, liberty, and property are retained. Locke's theory on liberty and social contract greatly influenced the drafters of American Constitution.
