Beautiful post. I used to swim and loved it. As for the

veggies, I recognize only tomatoes, chards, and peppers.

'Green beans' came to mind too, but it might be an umbrella term. 

Besides the dark-colored string beans, there seems also what the Chinese call 油豆角, which I have no idea how to translate into English.
