When AI was wildly developing in China in the past 10 years, the judgement of many professionals in this filed was that China will be the leading country who can develop breakthrough AI models, especially on the social contents of human knowledge. 

The roots of this judgement were: China has no strict privacy protection so that the researcher can easily collect tons of data for their AI model; plus, China is advance in the use of mobile internet and has a huge population producing tons of data for AI to collect and to learn from, and at the end, Chinese people got used to social surveillance systems that allow AI models to understand human behaviors in a much deeper layer. And certain, China has money, and they are not hesitating in investing the money in something that is this attractive.

However, the first language based AI model appeared in the US rather than China. Why?

The question actually guides to another conclusion.  Chatgpt and other language models will inevitably and quickly become banalized.
