Usually love songs are sung by the lover to the person who’s being loved. To me this song does the complete opposite, it is written by the person receiving the love. And unfortunately, the love isn’t mutual. “Turn that page for me.” I can see the receiver begging the lover to forget about them because they simply cannot love them back. However, I can see the respect and -platonic- love that the receiver has for the lover, and how they don’t want to hurt them anymore, so it would be better for them to separate.
