我觉得把then调动一下位置更好。

Mom and Dad worked all day and year long,
Mom and Dad worked all year round.
Mom and Day worked all day long.
"all year round"or "all day long", 是两个习语，仍用其一即可。
 

（Back then, raising girls was a bad business.）
我觉得这句可以略去。
