I think a good translation can be judged in this way--when you translated it back to its original language the meaning is largely reserved.
Take a look at "Looking up, I see the moon bright". In Chinese it means literally "(举头)向上望, 我看见月亮(很)亮“。 我想这不是原诗的意思。 月亮在中国文化里有很多寓意, 常常与思乡, 思亲, 念友, 念情联在一起。 我认为这句还应好好斟酌。
