The word "寒" in 寒蝉 also suggests the season in which the poem is set. To my understanding, no cicadas chirp in winter, but they do in late autumn. Which would we sacrifice if we have to--the coldness or the time set for the poem? "Coldness" is a little too big for the mood of the poem, but the word "autumn" gives the right tone.

Also, usually, we don't get 急雨in winter, but we do in autumn. -聚曦亭- 给 聚曦亭 发送悄悄话 (206 bytes) () 11/21/2014 postreply 12:29:42
