especially when it is in the middle of a word. For instance, the word "Amhes"t is pronounced Am-herst, but sounds more like Am-erst to unfamiliar ears, so is "Doherty", which is pronounced as Daw-her-tee, but the "her" word sounds like "er". It is also very common to hear "(h)er" at the end of a sentence when the sound is unstressed.
