That's a distorted view of democracy

Democracy is a system that has worked the best so far. People have experimented many systems and until a new system is found, this is the best one and an imperfect one.

The system really doesn't have much to do with the economic situations and social hierachies. People all live together and there is always unfairness to the minorities in a democracy.
