对Miss Baker的描述：
A subdued impassioned murmur was audible in the room beyond and Miss Baker leaned forward, unashamed, trying to hear.
-- 这儿“unashamed”是讽刺Miss Baker不知羞耻。
‘You mean to say you don’t know?’ said Miss Baker, honestly surprised. ‘I thought everybody knew.’
-- 这儿用的“honestly surprised”能让人觉得她Miss Baker经常是装的惊奇。
Chapter Two:
对Myrtle的描述：
Then I heard footsteps on a stairs and in a moment the thickish figure of a woman blocked out the light from the office door.
-- Myrtle 有这么胖吗？
‘It’s just a crazy old thing,’ she said. ‘I just slip it on sometimes when I don’t care what I look like.’
-- Myrtle 还很虚荣。
对Myrtle妹妹Catherine的描述：
She came in with such a proprietary haste and looked around so possessively at the furniture that I wondered if she lived here. But when I asked her she laughed immoderately, repeated my question aloud and told me she lived with a girl friend at a hotel.
