觉得它是相对于A 的梅花音而言， A in Apple, 这个A就读的是梅花音，短促，是一个音；

而ape里的A的音，读的就长，因为是两个音合在一起的。

只是叫法不同，我们通常将 A 称之为双元音（其实双元音发的音就是长点）。

这儿对长元音的定义也不无道理：A long vowel sound is the same as its name。
