I am working on a portrait of a successful orthopaedist and his wife.
Hope this xiezhao can arouse my enthusiasm since I admired Sargent for long.
Xie could be xie4, 一泻千里 bold and flowing or flow down vigorously.
Xie could be xie4, to look at master piece for inspiration.
Xie could be xie3, write down some words, even melody, is a neccesary emotion opener.
Xie could be xie3, blood circulation before brush wielding.
And xie could be xie2, from contrary to harmony.
写意画主张神似。董其昌有论：“画山水唯写意水墨最妙。何也？形质毕肖，则无气韵；彩色异具，则无笔法。”明代徐渭题画诗也谈到：“不求形似求生韵，根据皆吾五指裁。”
