Graduate schools in the United States are reporting a nine percent increase(长音i,似乎舌头买压住,听着像/ei/的音,后面几个都一样) in applications from international students(美音发u的音,不发类似/ju/的音) this year. The increase is the same as two years ago. Last year's gain(这个我说不好,跟原读比较一下,或查查字典。) was eleven percent.
China, Mexico (好像没听到ks的k的音)and Brazil showed the biggest increases in applications to enter master's and doctoral programs this fall.
Engineering is the top area of study for international students and had the biggest increase in applications. Gains in business and physical and earth sciences(不应该是s/e/s的音,可以弱化称s/schwa/s )were close behind. Life sciences showed no growth in the latest survey by the Council of(可连读) Graduate Schools.
The survey includes the top five countries that send graduate students to the United States, plus Mexico and Brazil. The top five are China, India, South Korea, Taiwan and Canada.
