Well, I am not so sure. Maybe, it is OK to say so. I just checked the idiom on the online dictionary. The typical verbs for this idiom include "get...; have...; give someone...". Here are some exemples for your references.

1). Whenever I have to speak in public, I get butterflies in my stomach.

2). She always has butterflies in her stomach before a test.

3). It was not frightening enough to give me butterflies in my stomach, but it made me a little apprehensive.
